More Call of Duty: WWII details leak, including story, co-op, release date – SlashGear
It was just over a day ago that Activision announced this year’s Call of Duty title would in fact be Call of Duty: WWII, confirming weeks of previous of previous rumors, but that hasn’t stopped more details on the upcoming FPS game from becoming public. While Activision’s announcement was little more than confirmation of a title and theme, marketing materials have leaked with additional info on the game’s story, a release date, and a new co-op mode.
Call of Duty: WWII is being developed by Sledgehammer Games, the same team behind 2014’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and is scheduled for release on Friday, November 3rd. This comes from marketing materials that are on their way to various retailers, which were obtained by CoD fansite CharlieIntel.
These materials include descriptions of the series return to a World War II setting, and a campaign that includes the D-Day landing in Normandy and numerous historic battles across Europe.
“Call of Duty returns to its roots with Call of Duty: WWII–a breathtaking experience that redefines World War II for a new gaming generation. Land in Normandy on D-Day and battle across Europe through iconic locations in history’s most monumental war. Experience classic Call of Duty combat, the bonds of camaraderie, and the unforgiving nature of war against a global power throwing the world into tyranny.”
“The Definitive World War II Campaign:
Call of Duty: WWII tells the story of an unbreakable brotherhood of common men fighting to preserve freedom in a world on the brink of tyranny. Players enlist in a gritty intense journey through the battlegrounds of war. The campaign features bold, lifelike visuals with the kind of blockbuster cinematic authenticity that only Call of Duty can deliver.”
Multiplayer, a staple of the CoD series, is said to feature maps based on “many of World War II’s most iconic locations,” along with promises of exciting new ways for players to interact and socialize with the game’s community.
Also interesting is mention of a new, story-based co-op mode that will offer a different gameplay experience than the standard campaign. And, of course, the materials promote that those who pre-order the game will get access to a “private beta,” another yearly tradition for each CoD release.
Fortunately we won’t have long to wait to hear the official details from Activision’s mouth, the publisher has said that a livestream reveal will take place on April 26th at 10 AM Pacific.
